Sabe aqueles conflitos dizendo que o Early Reggae, o Rocksteady e o Ska são melhores que tudo que surgiu depois (a controvérsias sempre), mas são conversas - muitas vezes discussões, que acontecem. Então, por mais que você goste de dancehall, por mais que você possa preferir o stepper, os digitais que tanto amamos, o reggae (falando de todas as eras), somente deu um salto após as produções de algumas mentes poderosas, musicalmente falando; Coxsone Dodd, dono do selo mais vanguardista de todos, o Studio One. E depois vem aqueles que se tornaram tão vanguardistas e inovadores quanto Dodd como; Duke Reid, Bunny "Striker" Lee, Lee "Scratch" Perry e seus discípulos que vieram a partir dos anos 70 como King Tubby, King Jammys, Scientist, Niney The Observer, e tantos outros... e não há como deixar de mencionar os chineses-jamaicanos como Justin Yap e Leslie Kong.
Pois bem, os selos dos anos 60 e inicio dos 70 tinham um diferencial, e como Studio One era uma referencia, alguns tentaram (e conseguiram) aprimorar as produções, assim foi criado por exemplo o selo Trojan, que diferente das produções de Coxsone, cheias de grooves, minimalista e funcional quando se tratava de tocar nas festas, a Trojan e selos que vieram a seguir, primavam pela produção da música, facilmente você vai ouvir arranjos extremamente bem feitos, ao invés de gravações com duas ou quatro pistas, algumas já com 8 pistas, harmonias com cordas com influencias das baladas de Ray Charles (Georgia On My Mind) ou James Brown (It's A Men's World). Essas influências nos arranjos e harmonias, você ouve fácil em canções nas vozes de Ken Boothe, Jimmy Cliff, John Holt e tantos outros da mesma geração. Para não estender mais (daria um ótima texto falar dessa fase musical da Jamaica), essa semana temos Trojan Records, Horse (selo também da Trojan) e Magnet.
